SHAPE Of Things To Come is an annual celebration and benchmark event of graduating students works from the creative arm of QUT. Reaching across two major faculties with a diverse range of discipline areas in each, The SHAPE Of Things To Come brings together a diverse ecology of practice from Built Environment and Engineering and The Creative Industries Faculty.
Now in its sixth year SHAPE has become a tradition, with the website acting as an important living document of QUT reference and the exhibition acting as not only as the showcase and celebration of this diverse creative ecology but also as a corner stone event of orientation and welcome for the incoming QUT cohort, and a window into QUT for future potential students.
SHAPE Students are nominated by the relevant lecturing staff and the annual curatorial team. Since the inaugural exhibition, which focused on setting up the inter-disciplinary dialogue, each successive year has been curated by a team of recent alumni students who have completed QUT's curatorial internship program. Each team develops a show from both the nomination process and viewing all the graduating shows of that year. From this pool of possibilities the team tease out a conceptual thread and lens through which the exhibited works can be considered. This years exhibition is titled I’m Yours/ Be Mine.

The School of Design seeks to maintain the identity of all its disciplines whilst taking advantage of the exciting possibilities, which are presented by their interaction. Our focus is developing a vigorous design culture within and through the undergraduate, postgraduate and higher degree programs. In addition we are committed to further developing work integrated learning and the internationalisation of our programs as well as embedding the new digital technologies within the teaching and research frameworks of the various disciplines in the school.
Imagine a place where individual creativity is encouraged across boundaries, where you can collaborate with like-minded spirits on projects and works across design, performance, production and writing. QUT’s Creative Industries Faculty is such a place. As gloal pioneers of the creative nidustries concept, we lead the way. Our location alongside research centres and creative enterprises in the $60m Creative Industries Precinct allows the Faculty unique partnerships through which we not only train the creative workforce, we work together to grow the creative sector.
I'm Yours/Be Mine considers the nature of desire as it exists in feminine, neutral and masculine contexts. Each work poses a proposition, questioning what fuels human desires, be it towards relationships, objects, materials food or lifestyles, and through this critically frames the notion of longing. The exhibition showcases work from Visual Arts, Fashion, Animation, Interactive and Visual Design, Architecture, Communication design, Industrial Design, Landscape Architecture and Interior Design.
