Additional School Cluster

2007BEEBachelor of Built Environment (Architectural Studies)

This project explored the relationship between a school and its wider community. By separating the given site into different precincts, two approaches to how a school could function were expressed. Located towards the front of the site, the ‘community as school’ area was more visible and looked at ways to integrate the school into the community through shared facilities, community-based activities and services. The ‘school as community’ space however was more ‘human’ in scale, and focussed solely upon the students and staff by creating an inward-looking and protective environment through the use of a central courtyard/ gathering space that was surrounded by classrooms clusters.
