2008 › CIF › BFA (Visual Arts) Within her practice, Alexandra Feu'u explores her own cultural identity, often using colour to examine her Samoan heritage within contemporary society. Highlighted in its title, Fakulous-Cardbordicus-Floribundum is a playful installation that explores the correlation between the 'natural' and the 'man made'. While Feu'u enjoys and acknowledges the importance of the cheekiness and humour in her work, the serious undertones that her work encompasses are of great importance. Interested in the traditional arts and culture of the Pacific Islands, Fakulous-Cardbordicus-Floribundum represents the over-harvesting of natural resources to satisfy the tourism industry, using man made materials to 're-supply' nature with what has been stripped from its environment.
