An interest in the mnemonic capacity of painting guides the process and visual enquiry in my practice. Memory can be triggered by the flawed, the peripheral and the banal. It also has a correlation with sincerity, authenticity, sentiment and desire. It is the artisan qualities of painting, particularly when gesture is shown and the accidental is left as is, that give the medium the facility to signify the ambiguous, intangible and temporal nature of memory.
