Catherine (Katie) NimmoThe Architectural Butterfly
|
2009 › CIF › BFA (Fashion) The Architectural Butterfly Collection is about colour and pattern. The inspiration for the collection began with the wings of butterflies and the contradictions they present. To the human eye they are beautiful and fragile, decorative and easily damage but the slightest touch. To the butterfly their wings are strong, functional pieces of their anatomy camouflaged to ensure survival. I wanted to translate these contradictions into my designs and portray these ideas in relation to the modern woman.
The designs in this collection for Spring/Summer 2009 uses simple, architectural shapes as a base for the silhouettes and combines a small, but quirky colour palette of black, cream, ice blue and desert orange with bold, striking patterns. The collection of nine, one-off couture pieces create a sense of strong but beautiful luxury, utilizing 100% silk fabrics with appliqué and piecing construction techniques. |
