Doomsplay
|
2009 › CIF › BCI (Communication Design) Doomsplay is a playful embodied media installation that highlights the influence human actions have on the environment. As ‘space invaders’ fall from the sky, the participant uses full body movements to attempt to block them from landing on the city below. The subject’s movements, which are captured and relayed through motion tracking, are visible on a large screen as a ‘shadow’ over the cityscape. Each collision between the subject’s shadow and a space invader leads to an alien’s demise. The participant’s skill in deterring the increasingly persistent alien threat determines the rate of growth or decline of the city below. The conclusion of the game is dependent on the persistence of the subject as they attempt to delay the city’s inevitable destruction.
