My collection is homage to traditional country living, of sorts. Here the essence of rural life (practicality, reason, function and simplicity) has become inconvenient, impractical and unreasonable. The designs show my true joy in the ironic and the postmodern. The collection most noticeably is 80-90% sheer, and focuses heavily on the concept of layering. All the prints are original and hand painted designs with abstract chickens, poppies and a traditional ‘farmers check’ adorning the collection. All of my accessories are hand made and embody the same tongue in cheek humour as the collection, with fingerless, silk ‘gardening gloves’, sheer hats and rosettes as well as a range of feathered pieces made entirely from rare breed chicken feathers (all of which were gathered from my family’s chickens, none of whom were harmed in the process). It is my love of irony, comedy, and enigmatic intellectualism that has greatly influenced my graduate collection.
