2010 › CIF › BFA (hons) Visual Arts I am interested in developing video-installation works that combine film, image, object, sound and text to renegotiate ranges of perceptual, visceral and somatic experiences for a viewer. I particularly engage with multi-layered and hybrid forms of installation practice to actively displace meaning and disrupt particular conventions of viewing art and to develop new ways to engage with and articulate contemporary forms of installation practice. My practice isn’t medium specific and works across virtual, psychological and physical operation of space, simultaneously producing sensations, referencing ideas of process and materiality as well as creating dialogues between a number of images and objects within a space of exhibition. My works specifically amalgamate opposing physical forms and textures by way of the object, combining seemingly unrelated materials together to deliver many separate catalysts for thought and experience. As masses of familiar objects, forms and images clumsily interact within my works they become abstracted, initiating new psychological and physical experiences that draw attention to the tactile and visceral nature of the object, the contexts of each object and its ability to generate fantasy, space and place simultaneously. I’m particularly interested in this process, allowing transitional spaces of meaning to operate simultaneously to alleviate specific meaning, creating a viewing process that fluctuates and scatters across endless narratives and unfamiliarity, engaging a viewer within a site of constant unease, confusion and renegotiation.
