2010 › CIF › BFA (Fashion) Collection_01 is a tran-seasonal womenswear range inspired by the native bushlands of Tasmania and the abstract form of the female body.
The lines of the garments were drawn from the simple movements of a dancer’s body and the way in which humans interact together to create a mass of entwined bodies. The individual body is distinguishable from other objects but when in a group it becomes an unrecognisable and abstract. This idea was translated into the range through fabrications and drape in order to give the illusion of multiple bodies as one. In using different fabrications of chiffon and a heavy jersey knit, each garment was free to move in a distinctive and individual way across the body. The unique digital prints in this collection are textural manipulations of bark photography. The photographs were taken from my home in the bushlands of Tasmania, and are of native gum trees. The prints have been left as untouched as possible to show the depth, colour and lines of the bark which helps to emphasise the body and movement of the garments. |
