Colour Field was designed to seduce the body by appealing to one’s vision, memories and touch. It offers a range of sensory engagements through its vibrancy, scale, position in space, tactility and the informality of its materials. Multi-coloured streamers were used to mimic the possibilities of physical immersion in a ‘field’ of colour, and the optical sensation of a pulsating, mass of colour originally observed in ‘Colour Field Painting’. Its bold colours and construction attempt to encourage a conscious mobilization and awareness of the body, and its senses. I want people to experience a phenomenological realization of this art-object; that it is the way they choose to see, move around and touch the installation that constitutes its meaning. |
