Lauren Clarke

2010CIFBFA (Fashion)

This work reflects new societal ideals of sobriety through a meticulous focus on innovation of fit and design, quality of fabrication, and extended product life. Where each piece has been draped individually from the stand, the collection portrays a body of work set to redefine the value of luxury, and provide its wearer with a garment of architecturally distinct vision.

Developed upon the atmospheric compositions of stacked, floating rectangles, illustrated by the late British painter Mark Rothko; the collection develops a co-existence between sharp geometric shapes and soft draped fabrics. Developed upon the signature palette of dark hues used by Rothko, colour attains an unprecedented luminosity through the use of high lustre jersey and silks, in a contrast between intended right and wrong sides of the fabrication. Envisioned to ‘float’ upon the body, each outfit focuses on an aspect of movement in relation to fit and design, where garments are elegantly fitted and simultaneously move with the wearer.
