My practice currently employs collage as a formal and conceptual device. Through collating the animation of geometric shapes, ambient sounds and installation, this device has aided in literalising my viewing experiences of mainstream media, digital technology and nature. The video exhibited, in part as repetitive and unexpected bursts of colour and sound, often seems to suggest the idea of the television viewer being driven to drastic intervention through the very predictability and repetition that is the mainstay of popular culture. The installation of video, and incorporation of slow imaging and ambient sound, can also suggest a visceral environment - an escape for anyone willing to endure the chaos that proceeds and follows. Together, the chaotic animations and monotonous sounds, have allowed the work and my practice to explore new relations of colour, space and perception.
