I see milk crates as indicative of the processes of systematisation and standardisation that I observe in the built environment. Intriguingly these processes are often manifested in an array of incremental grid-like forms. I am particularly interested in how such forms and processes in the physical space relate to our own mental spaces. In this work I intended to subject the milk crates to a gesture that was in formal and ideological opposition to the original objects. Milk crates are often reused or adapted according to an individual’s requirements, and this piece aims to explore the possibilities of this practice. However, the process evident in this work also suggests the trauma of such re-evaluations of space.
