2010 › CIF › BCI (Communication Design) Zenscapes is an enchanting interactive work incorporating a series of animations featuring origami dolls as the main characters. The animations portray narratives exploring themes associated with the appreciation of life, love, art, nature and play.
The origami dolls are playfully animated within several picturesque garden scenes which are seen through a viewing hole via a large LCD screen which is mounted into the rear of a Japanese style garden wall. Using fiducial tracking technology, participants are able to tangibly interact with the work by selecting one of the five origami characters on display, load them into their corresponding garden scene and view the animations. Combined with relaxing soundtracks, the slow temporal pacing of the animations allows participants to take in the subtleties of the narratives and all that is happening in the moment which contributes to the meditative qualities of the experience. This work was first exhibited at This Way Up (2009). |
