Sonic Footprints

2010CIFBCI (Communication Design)

Sonic Footprints strives to inspire a social conversation about our current acoustic ecology and the attributes of which we have control as contributors within our local acoustic community. The identity of an “acoustic community” is defined as any soundscape in which plays a pervasive role in the lives of the inhabitants. As sound is often considered the ambience of our civilisation, the sonic landscape often feels beyond our control, an inevitable, if unpleasant, accompaniment to progress.

The intention of Sonic Footprints is to create a scaled-down, interactive tangible medium whereby the audience builds an acoustic community. In producing this dynamic sonic landscape, focus is targeted on our personal and collective impact on our local and global acoustic ecology.

Sonic Footprints won the ACID prize for Tangible Media in 2009.
