Tiernan JosephPoints of Infill and the Urban Pattern

2009BEEGraduate Diploma in Landscape Architecture

The design investigates the potential of the voids which exist within the streetscape. The street plays an integral role in the habitation of space, as it serves for both a passage for movement and means for social interaction. With the densification of suburban living and the subsequent loss of private recreational space, greater emphasis will be placed on the public realm. The expansive graded network of the street and the verge binds the urban fabric and provides an ideal medium to bring forth new forms of urban living. To instigate social change and provide a direction for street configuration, one must examine the way in which we inhabit and occupy this type of existing space, in order to set desired outcomes for future direction.
