2007 › BEE › Master of Built Environment (Urban Design) This proposal is based upon the necessity to achieve a balance between the needs of the local community and the ecological integrity of the area. The spaces are infused with direct physical and symbolic links between culture, nature and history. Through landscape experience, such links encourage critical and reflective thought about the meaning of the place, deepening the users’ connections with the land, in turn creating a more profound respect for the place and its natural landscape. The design is based on the paradigm that learning in all spheres of life, not just the work place or class room is essential for community sustainability. It recognizes the need to eliminate external boundaries, to integrate public life into university life and to promote social exchange and practical everyday learning.
