2008 › BEE › Graduate Diploma in Industrial Design As computer games and video games are becoming evermore popular in today’s digital society, so is the rise in numbers of game addiction. The Echelon addresses this by allowing parental figures to monitor and control the amount of time their children spend on online PC games or gaming consoles. It works off a ‘credit’ system where players are designated an amount of time allowed for game play. When this credit has been used up, the player is then blocked from the game. Players need to spend time outside the game in order to recover the lost credit. The intention behind the design of the Echelon was to establish a regular gaming schedule, which is especially important for younger players as this reduces the likelihood of the child becoming addicted to games further on in life.
